Manggarai — Indonesia’s National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) is building 189 temporary housing units for residents whose homes were severely damaged by the Flores earthquake on 15 August 2026, according to reports published on 1 October 2026.

Five units are complete, while 41 have reached between 50 and 90 per cent progress. A further 65 units are below 50 per cent completion, and 78 sites are still undergoing land preparation, according to BNPB figures reported by Tribun Flores and RRI.

The five completed units are distributed across Compang Carep village in Langke Rembong district, Salama urban village in Reok district, Reo Baru urban village in Reok district, and Satar Ngkeling village in Wae Ri’i district, RRI reported.

Why the housing programme matters to Flores readers

The temporary homes are intended for residents whose houses were classified as severely damaged after the earthquake. The programme provides interim accommodation while authorities continue assessing damage and planning longer-term housing support.

The 189-unit construction programme is part of a larger provisional allocation of 1,974 temporary homes for severely damaged houses in Manggarai. BNPB said the figure remains subject to verification and validation because aftershocks are continuing, according to Tribun Flores.

BNPB expert Brigadier General Asep Dedy Darmadi said the agency had asked its vendor to complete all temporary housing units in November 2026. He also said some construction materials must be brought from Surabaya, creating a logistical constraint.

The progress figures cited in the reports describe the situation recorded through 30 September 2026, with the construction update communicated on 1 October 2026.
