ASDP Cancels Two Kupang Ferry Routes on 10 September 2026

Labuan Bajo — Two inter-island ferry services from Kupang were canceled on Thursday, 10 September 2026, after the operator cited unfavorable weather conditions, according to a local schedule bulletin. The affected ASDP routes were Kupang–Aimere–Waingapu and Kupang–Larantuka.

Pos Kupang reported that the Kupang–Aimere–Waingapu sailing was assigned to the roll-on/roll-off vessel KMP Kalibodri, while the Kupang–Larantuka sailing was to be operated by KMP Ile Labalekan. Both departures were listed as canceled on 10 September because of poor weather, although the report did not specify the exact wind or wave conditions behind the decision.

According to the same schedule, four other services from Kupang were expected to continue operating as planned using KMP Cakalang II, KMP Lakaan, KMP Ile Mandiri and KMP Namparnos. A separate schedule item for 11 September shows KMP Kalibodri again listed on the Kupang–Aimere route and other vessels continuing their services, indicating that operations resumed on at least some corridors after the 10 September disruption.

Routes and travel information

The canceled sailings connect Kupang with ports in Flores and Sumba. The Kupang–Aimere–Waingapu route links Timor to Flores and onward to Waingapu in East Sumba, while Kupang–Larantuka connects Kupang with eastern Flores. These corridors carry both passengers and vehicles across East Nusa Tenggara’s island network.

Local coverage noted that tickets for ASDP ferries serving Bolok port in Kupang and several other NTT ports must now be purchased online. Travelers are directed to make reservations through ASDP’s Ferizy digital platform by registering or logging in, choosing the departure port, destination, service type and whether they are traveling as passengers or with vehicles, then completing payment online.

ASDP itself has promoted this shift to digital ticketing. In an official statement, the company said its Ferizy service went live in five NTT ports in July 2024, including Bolok in Kupang, Kalabahi, Waibalun, Aimere and Waingapu. Customers can book tickets via the Ferizy website or mobile app, selecting departure date, origin and destination ports, class of service, type of user and vehicle category, and then paying electronically to receive an e-ticket.

Key schedule details reported for Thursday, 10 September 2026 include:

Weather-related restrictions in NTT

The September cancellations came in the same year that ASDP’s Kupang branch temporarily halted several longer-distance routes because of hazardous marine conditions.

On 2 March 2026, ASDP Kupang announced it was closing a number of ferry routes in NTT from Monday, 2 March, through Thursday, 5 March 2026 due to bad weather, including high waves. A company representative told Detik Bali that services would not operate on several corridors until 5 March, with the Kupang–Hansisi (Semau) route as a notable exception that remained open.

Media Indonesia later reported that inter-island ferry traffic in NTT was still largely suspended as of 8 March 2026, with only the short Kupang–Hansisi link back in operation. According to ASDP Kupang’s manager, longer routes such as Kupang–Rote, Kupang–Kalabahi, Kupang–Aimere, Kupang–Sabu, Kupang–Lewoleba and Kupang–Larantuka were among those kept closed because of continuing adverse conditions.

BMKG’s maritime station in Tenau Kupang forecast significant wave heights in NTT waters during that March period, with waves of up to around 2.9 metres expected in some southern Timor–Rote and Sabu–Raijua areas between 8 and 14 March 2026. The early March restrictions and forecasts illustrate how weather and sea state can force ASDP to suspend services in the region.

Those March measures provide context for ASDP’s decisions to cancel sailings, though publicly available reports do not confirm that the same marine conditions were present on 10 September 2026.
