Police maintain daily tourism patrols across Labuan Bajo

Labuan Bajo — Police in Manggarai Barat, East Nusa Tenggara, say they are maintaining regular patrols across Labuan Bajo’s main tourism areas, focusing on public security for residents and visitors in the port, city center, hotel zones and marine tourism sites.

According to the Manggarai Barat police’s official news portal, the force conducts daily patrols and security operations through the Vital Objects Security Unit, which is tasked with safeguarding key tourism locations in and around Labuan Bajo.

The head of the tourism unit within the Vital Objects Security Unit, Aiptu Didi Haryadi, said patrols are carried out every day and target areas frequented by tourists, including the port, central urban areas, hotel districts and marine tourism zones that support Labuan Bajo’s role as a major national tourism destination.

Police describe these activities as part of a broader commitment to ensure visitors feel safe and local communities benefit from a secure environment as Labuan Bajo continues to develop as a strategic tourism hub in eastern Indonesia.

Patrols at key visitor locations

Reports from national media and police communications state that the daily patrols cover several categories of locations considered vital for tourism.

Officers from the tourism unit focus on the port and nearby waterfront facilities that serve boats and ships carrying tourists to surrounding islands and marine attractions.

They also patrol the city center and hotel zones where visitors stay and move between activities, as well as marine tourism areas that form part of the wider destination, including routes and sites used for diving, snorkeling and leisure cruises.

Police say these operations are conducted with an emphasis on “humanist” service, aiming to provide visible reassurance, respond to public concerns and prevent disturbances in areas that are central to the tourism economy.

Labuan Bajo has been designated by the Indonesian government as a priority tourism area, and local security forces have stepped up activities to match rising visitor numbers and investment in the region.

In separate coverage of law-enforcement operations, regional media describe large-scale joint patrols by police and military units in Labuan Bajo, targeting streets, tourist corridors and other public spaces to deter crime and maintain public order.

Police and other agencies have also coordinated patrols and inspections at sea, including checks on tourist vessels and joint operations with immigration and maritime authorities to enforce regulations and protect visitors in Komodo National Park and surrounding waters.

These efforts, alongside the daily tourism patrols led by the Manggarai Barat Police Tourism Unit under the Vital Objects Security Unit, are presented by officials as measures to safeguard Labuan Bajo’s reputation as a safe destination for domestic and international travellers.
